Game Keeper: Somebody Messed Up My Shop! Genres List

The sorting rule in Game Keeper is the same for all 4,290 cases: genre decides the rack, disk number decides the slot. The genre is never guessed from the cover art. It is printed in brackets on the label the HUD shows when you aim at a case, for example Baldy’s Gate [RPG] - Disk 3 or Ninja Garden [Slasher] - Disk 2.

The NSFW sign is a joke category on a board of parody games; the game itself has no adult content descriptors on Steam.

Genres that look alike

Because the covers parody real games, your instinct about “what genre is this” is often wrong. These pairs are where a case most easily goes to the wrong rack:

  • Hack & Slash vs Slasher. Both exist as separate signs. Ninja Garden is labelled Slasher. Read the bracket.
  • RPG vs JRPG vs MMORPG. Three different racks. Baldy’s Gate is RPG.
  • Strategy vs RTS. Separate signs.
  • Soulslike vs Action. A “Souls” parody is not automatically Soulslike; check the label.
  • Sci-Fi vs Shooter vs Survival. Isolated Aliens, which looks like sci-fi horror, is labelled Stealth.
  • Mobile, Browser and Clicker are their own racks, not sub-types of Casual.

Order inside a rack

Inside a series, cases go in disk order: Disk 1, then Disk 2, and so on. The number is also printed big on the front of each box (the 6 on Pillows of Eternity, the 9 on Shallow Night). Series lengths vary; the developers had to number covers from 1 to 3, 1 to 5 and 1 to 9 for different series. When you hold a case from a series you have already started, the gap on the shelf shows you exactly where it goes.

The HUD tracks both totals: cases shelved out of 4,290 and series completed out of 650. A series only counts as complete when every disk in it is in place.

Fast sorting habits

  1. Work one rack at a time. Stand at a sign, collect every case of that genre within reach, then fill.
  2. Use the highlight. Shelf slots light up under your crosshair, so you can see a valid slot before you commit.
  3. Leave odd disks near their rack. If you are carrying a case whose rack is across the store, drop it on the floor next to that rack instead of making a special trip; it will be there when you work that area.
  4. Upgrade early. The skill tree has abilities that grab a whole series at once, which turns this from one-by-one sorting into batch work.
